When Shana found out she was expecting her first child, she was ecstatic. As an interior designer, she knew she could make her baby's room magical, beautiful, and fully functional.
Shana and her husband waited to find out the gender of their baby (check out the Event Planning section to see more about that baby shower) so she planned this nursery to be gender-neutral. Shana created a unique color palette of green, yellow, white and gray to give the nursery a fun, relaxed, and cheerful feeling.
The whimsical mural of white trees with yellow leaves spans the entire room, creating a magical forest full of sweet gray birds which seem to guard the baby from every direction. A hand-stenciled banner with the baby's name, suspended by the helpful beaks of two friendly birds, graces the wall above the changing station. Picture shelves adorn another wall in order to display children's books so that the baby can see the covers to aid in selection (very helpful before a child can speak!) A flat-weave rug with a pad beneath creates a barrier between the baby and a cold floor, without the danger of losing small toys in a high pile textile.
Shana added a sentimental addition of 12 little ladybugs hidden on the wall in a corner of the room. She and her husband sang the "Ladybug's Picnic" song to their unborn baby throughout the pregnancy and continue to sing it to their daughter now that she's here. When she is old enough to find these it should be a happy surprise!
Shana loves cohesive details and is excellent at organizing. She lined the interior of the dresser drawers with coordinating contact paper and maximized the potential of the drawers by utilizing fabric containers. These bins are perfect for tiny socks, onesies, diapers, and more! The diaper changing station is extremely convenient because everything is out of sight, but at your fingertips.
